WSOP Circuit Paris final: what crypto poker really is

Forty-five players come back Monday at the Partouche Pasino Club with 1,661,472 EUR in the middle. The WSOP Circuit Main Event in Paris took 1,282 entries across five starting flights, and that makes it the biggest Circuit Main Event the WSOP has ever run, anywhere. Which is a good moment to say something about the word poker, because on a crypto site it covers two games that have almost nothing to do with each other, and picking the wrong one costs you money before you've played a hand.

That combination is the whole story of the European live scene right now: the volume isn't at the high roller tables, it's in mid-stakes fields deep enough to build a seven figure pool out of a buy-in most recreational players can rationalise.

The word poker covers two different games

Here's where it touches you.

When a crypto site says it has poker, it means one of two things, and the site rarely spells out which.

Player against player. Real poker. You sit with other people, the house takes rake from the pot or a tournament fee, and your edge comes from playing better than the table. Cash games, Sit and Go, multi table tournaments. This is the game they're playing in Paris.

Nothing directly, and that's worth saying plainly. You can't buy into a live WSOP Circuit event with crypto, you can't bet on a poker tournament the way you'd bet a football match, and no crypto room is running a Paris satellite. The festival finishes Monday and then it's gone.
